The Cultural Week – CONFLUENCE 2016

To give wings to the vast talent pool in the junior section of St. Joseph’s Academy, a cultural day was organized in the school auditorium on Wednesday the 18th day of May 2016. The event was a colourful spectrum of items ranging from folk, to classical to contemporary dances intercepted with some soulful music by the solo performers. The programme also showcased interesting plays in Hindi and English dealing with the misuse of environment and how things don’t always work out the way we want them to. The surprise of the day was a beautiful fusion of yoga, aerobics and ‘dancercise’ emphasizing that fitness regime can be fun too! The programme came to an end with the Principal’s address and school song sung with great gusto by the gathering as the Junior School geared up for the coming and much awaited summer vacation.

Cultural Week ,the much awaited extravaganza  at SJA saw a plethora of events unfolding the talent of the Josephites, first of them being the Middle school folk dance competition  judged by Mr.R. Sinha,Mr. D. Nautiyal and Mrs. N. Manwal. The scintillating  colours of the costumes, the melody of the songs and the well synchronised  steps of the dancers left the audience only desiring for more .Next in line was the mime, showcasing different  themes like obsession for mobiles, gender discrimination and evolution etc. All the presentations received a spirited  response and proved that actions speak louder than words. The next event, the street jam , a musical orchestra  produced out of junk remained a hit and witnessed the viewers tapping their feet joyously. The adapt tune a solo dance performance  showed the versatility of the budding performers . The last event of the day,the middle school western dance  served as the cherry on the cake and the judges had a tough time deciding the best troupe. The score board at the end of the  day had Duffy house right at the top closely followed by Doolley,Donovan and Bergin respectively.

On the resplendent morning of the 20th of May, the exuberant vibes could be felt around the jubilant Josephites as they gathered to witness the monumental clash between the four houses, ‘Confluence’ 2016. This event is a festival to provide the students with a unique platform to exhibit their talent and at the same time, ignite their competitive fire.
First event was  the movie making contest where the houses were to make short films highlighting the spirit of sportsmanship. In this, the directorial skills of Duffy house won it the first position.

Next, we had an elegant, graceful and symphonic exhibition, in the form of classical and folk dance. In classical dance, Bergin house mesmerised the  judges and audience alike and bagged the first position while in folk dance it was the congruous moves of  Dooley         house that were triumphant.
Beauty,it’s said, lies in everything around us. Discovering this, we had the first ever fashion show. It was the breathtaking magnificence of Donovan house that ruled over everyone’s  hearts.
After a short break, the melodious tunes of the English and Hindi choir and the medley teams resonated throughout the auditorium. Duffy, Donovan and Duffy again emerged victorious respectively. Finally, the most anticipated event of the day, western dance, took place. The enthralling moves of Bergin house, spanning four vivacious dance forms, won it the first position.
