SJA baggs Frank Anthony Memorial All India Inter School Debate- 2012

This year, the Finals of the  Frank Anthony Memorial  All India Inter school Debate Competition was held on 25th September, 2012  at La Martinere  Girls School, Kolkata. St. JosephⳠAcademy was represented by Bhuvanyaa Vijay and Jahnavi Shrivastava. After crossing the hurdle of  the Quarter Final and Semi Final rounds, they entered the Finals  amidst tough competition by  teams from all zones. St. JosephⳠAcademy was declared the Winner for the year 2012. The team won the coveted Shield; Bhuvanyaa Vijay was declared the Best Speaker for two consecutive years and Jahnavi Shrivastava was declared the Third Best Speaker.

In the National Finals (Round 3) of the Frank Anthony Memorial All-India Inter-School Debate Championship(Category-1 for classes 11 &12)conducted on September 25, 2012 in La Martiniere for Girls⬠Kolkata, St.JosephⳠAcademy (Dehradun) emerged as the National Champion for the second consecutive year. SJA was represented by Bhuvanyaa Vijay and Jahnavi Shrivastava.  Amidst extremely tough competition from 7 other schools like La Martiniere for Boys⠨Kolkata), BishopⳠSchool (Pune), Swaraj International Public School (Kanpur), and other reputed schools from Cochin, Dhanbad, etc., SJA put up tremendous arguments which were both witty and mature. Bhuvanyaa Vijay, with her immaculate debate and calm composure was awarded the title of the Best Speaker making her the Best All-India Debater for the second consecutive year, after her victory in the National Finals of the same debate in 2011. Jahnavi, with her sensible outlook, was ranked the second Runner-Up Speaker in the debate. The topic was should we change the straightjacket of syllabi and subject choice for a more joyful classroom experience?

The debaters of SJA have made Uttarakhand proud by being the first school to win this prestigious debate (organized by the CISCE Board) for the second consecutive time. Bhuvanyaa is the only Speaker to be adjudged the Best twice in a row. She was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 5000 and a Gold Medal. Jahnavi was awarded Rs.2000 and a Bronze Medal. Both the members also received Rs.5000 each apart from the above for the Best Team.

This team has  also won The All India Inter School Oliphant Memorial English Debate organised by Welham Boys⠓chool, Dehadun. In this debate, Jahnavi Shrivastava and Bhuvanyaa Vijay were declared the Best Speakers in the Final and Semi Final rounds respectively. In the year 2011-2012 St. JosephⳠAcademy has won all major inter school English Debates held in Dehradun and Mussorie. BhuvanyaaⳠoutstanding performance has been appreciated by all.
