BRO. ET.DUNNE MEMORIAL INTER HOUSE ENGLISH & HINDI DEBATE 2017

Bro.Eugune Timothy Dunne was a kind and honourable soul who had an indispensible part of SJA  family for quite some time. Though he left for his heavenly abode on 2nd February, 2009, his voice still echoes amongst us through the annual Inter-House debate held in his memory.

This year ninth edition of the debate took place on 19thAugust,2017 in the school auditorium. The Chief guest for the occasion was our Principal Reverend Bro. BabuVerghese.Bro.Binoi also graced the occasion. The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Bro.Babu Verghese,, Bro.BinoiMrs.NathMr.K.Kathpalia  and Mr.K.Raj.

The English Debate was held first. The imminent judges who adjudged the Debate were Mrs.Nadira Ahmad, Mr. Michael A.Burrows and Mrs.S.Hasan. This year the debate was held in two rounds, round one extemporary debate followed by Turncoat. Vaishnavi Mishra was the comp ‘ere while RabjotSethi was the Chairperson for the debate.

Adya Vasudev let everyone in prayer. The motion under fire was “Economics has replaced ethics in youth’s life today” Each debater spoke with immaculate precision, aplomb, conviction  and passion. In battle of wits and words in the extempore debate Payal Mehrotra of Duffy House emerged as the winner and the Best Rebuttal speaker. While Malvika Dangwal of Donovan House was the Runners Up and the best Turncoat speaker. Bergin House emerged as the Best Team in the English Debate.The organisers for the English Debate were Pushpak Bhandariand Rachna Gulati.

After the interval the Hindi Debate was held. The topic was “GST is beneficial for the nation”. The imminent judges who adjudged the event were Mrs.V.Sharma,Mrs.P.Chawla and Mrs.S.Jain. Anuksha Negi was the comp ‘ere of the event while Aryan Srivastav was the Chairperson for the debate. After the battle of the wits which lasted for over an hour. Yashveer Anandof Dooley House and Abhinav Uniyal of Bergin house were declared the joint winners of the Proposition side and RiddhiSehgal of Duffy and Naina Gupta of Donovan house were declared the winners of the Opposition side.Bergin House was the Runners Up house while Duffy was the Best House ,and it also lifted the coveted trophy.

Bro.Babu Verghese spoke about GST  and said that it will result in the economic integration of the country and maybe one day after 50 years ,we may also be living in a utopian world where we don’t have to pay taxes. The Senior School coordinator Mr.S.Gupta spoke about the importance of GST and how it is helping in saving thousands of crores which will contributing in the nation’s progress. Mrs.R.Gulati gave a vote of thanks and concluded the programme. Mrs.S.Tiwari, Mrs.B.Negi and Mrs.A.Bisht were the organisers of the Hindi Debate.

JUNIOR SCHOOL DECLAMATION

20th July, 2017 was the day designated for the Jr. School Declamation.

Classes III to V played attentive audience to the 18 speakers. Each
participant took to the dais to argue and express his/her point of view
regarding the topics under fire. Class V debated on the topic, “Our
Education System has become irrelevant in today’s world.” While
class IV orators, making their maiden speech discussed whether Pocket
money should be given to children or not.
The chief guest for the day, Rev. Bro. Varghese agreed
with the speakers of class IV who spoke against the motion as he felt that
Jr. School children were a little too young to truly understand the value of
money. He congratulated the winners and admired the confidence shown
by them. Certificates were given to all the participants

Frank Anthony Memorial All India Inter School Debate 2017

Frank Anthony Memorial All India Inter School Debate 2017 held at SJA
The Frank Anthony Memorial All India Inter School Debate 2017 Category 1 (Class XI/ XII)  took place on 17 July,2017 at St.Joseph’s Academy in the school auditorium.
The programme commenced with Manvi Kumar leading us in  a prayer.Our Reverend Principal Bro.Babu Varghese,Vice Principal Bro.Binoi, Coordinators Mrs.Hasan,Mrs. Tandon, Ms. Sabherwal and  Mr.Gupta lit the ceremonial lamp.
The Chair Person for the debate Mrs Nadira Ahmed opened the debate and read out the rules and regulations of the debate.The school that participated in the Debate were The Heritage School,All Saints College Tallital Nainital,Ann Mary School, Unison World School, Convent of Jesus and Mary, Wynberg Allen School,Swami  Hariharanand Public School,The Aryan School and Cambrian Hall.
The judges for the prestigious event were Mr .Anurag Sangal,Mr.Sudhir Arora and Prof.R.S. Rana.
The Topic for the Debate was ‘Print Media is Losing Out’.The debaters had a war of wits and ideas.It was a keenly contested debate where the competition was fierce and the young speakers presented their points with vigour, conviction and enthusiasm.
Mrs.Ahmed ended the debate after a grueling session of debating.The esteemed judges enlightened the speakers on the fine skills of debating and the topic.
Bro.Babu Varghese gave a vote of thanks and thanked the participants for vigorously debating  and the teachers for organising such a spectacular event.After this the compere of the show Toshita Sadhu announced the winners of the event.The 1st Runner up speaker was Avni Tripathi from All Saints College Tallital Nanital and the Best Speaker was Deepansh Jawrani from Wynberg Allen School.All Saints College Tallital Nanital was adjudged the winners of the debate while Convent of Jesus and Mary were the runners up team.
The programme concluded with the School Song.

The Cultural Week : CONFLUENCE 2017 (Day 3)

The last day of Confluence 2017 at St.Joseph’s Academy was organised in the school auditorium on 18 May,2017.Their was great expectation and zeal in the Josephites to make it a unforgettable day.The programme commenced with the ‘Fashion Show’ where all the models walked on the ramp with perfect grace and poise showcasing the various shades of the spring season.Donovan house came first in this event.
After this event the classical dancers of all the houses moved in sync with the traditional music enchanting us all.Bergin house was winner of this category.The Bollywood Dance had all the houses enacting a movie through a dance .The dancers elegantly moved with the music and mesmerised the audience with their portrayal of the characters and they very skilfully displayed the story of the film.Dooley and Donovan were declared the winners of this competition.
The programme  took a tumultuous turn as fortunes shifted from Dooley to Donovan.Donovan which was languishing in the third position now became a contender for the trophy.In the English Dramatics, all the actors acted in a skillful way bringing out the characters of their play to life.For the First time in our school’s history three houses Duffy,Donovan and Bergin came first in this category.This was followed by the Choir and the Medley were all the singers and musicians gave a stellar performance.Their soothing and soulful music  resonated in the whole auditorium.Donovan house emerged the winner in this category
Finally, the last event of the day was Western Dance where the dancers gracefully moved their bodies to different tunes.Bergin house emerged as the winner of this event and was also given the prize for ‘The Event of the Day’.Bergin and Donovan were declared the joint winners of Confluence 2017. Duffy House bagged the runners up trophy of the event.

Their was absolute joy and jubilation for both the houses as their diligence bore fruit.Bro.Dennis thanked all the participants and teachers for making this event such a grand success.

The Cultural Week : CONFLUENCE 2017 (Day 1)

Cultural Day is the most awaited event in the Jr. School calendar looked forward to by all the Jr. Josephites. 17th May, 2017 was the day designated for the Jr. School to put their best foot forward and awe the audience and guests with their talents and jaw dropping performance in the musical plays – The Jungle Book, Around the World, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Dharti Ki Pukar to name a few.

                                                 The programme was greatly appreciated, and the hard work put in by the students and their mentors was applauded by the chief guest, Rev. Bro Dennis Joseph, Principal St. Joseph’s Academy. He also expressed his gratitude for the commendable co-operation extended by the parent.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY 2017

The Investiture ceremony at St.Joseph Academy was held in the school auditorium on 9 May, 2017.
The programme started with Ashish Das of class 12 leading everyone in a prayer.
A welcome speech was given to introduce the Chief Guest,  MS. Sweety Agarwal, SSP of Dehradun.
The Chief Guest , Bro.Dennis, Bro.Benedict ,MS.Hasan and Dr.S.Sabherwal lit the ceremonial lamp.
This was followed by a scintillating welcome dance”Shubharambh”After that the Hindi Choir sang ” khande se melte hai khandhe”
Then the newly elected Middle school student body members marched proudly down the aisle-their steps in perfect sychorinzation with the resonating drum beats.
Bro.Dennis adminstered the oath to the middle school council.
Next the English Choir sang “Hall of fame” and mesmerized the audience with their song.
Later the western dance performed on the track of ” Mambo Number 5 “, cast a spell on the spectators.
Finally the senior school members marched forward solemnly and took their  stand on stage. Savinay Sharma (Head Boy) and Muskaan Agarwal(Head Girl) received their batches from the Chief Guest.Bro. Dennis administered the oath to the senior council.
Followed by a choir “Hand in Hand” to inspire the newly elected council.
The Chief Guest motivated the student body to exhibit their leadership qualities.She encouraged the council members to take their peers along with them which is the true quality of a leader.
Finally,Bro.Dennis gave the vote of thanks and specially thanked the Chief Guest for gracing the occasion.He also thanked the teachers,performers and the organizers of the show.
The programme concluded with the school song.The comperers of the show were Tushar Sarin,Devanshu Mehta and Rishabh Gupta.
