Sir J.L.D’Souza was a pioneer in education and one of the longest serving and most respected teacher of St. Joseph’s Academy.  In his memory, S.J.A. hosts the J.L.D’Souza Memorial English Debate every year.
This year as well, on 27th August, 9 reputed schools including Welham Girls’, CJM, St. Thomas’ College, The Doon school etc. under the pseudonym of famous poets, competed in this battle of words and wits.
The prestigious jury included well known personalities in academic circles- Mrs. Nadira Ahmed , Dr. Manisha  Saxena and Miss Patricia Herne.
The topic under hammer was-‘India in the true sense has become intolerant’. Each speaker brought forth his/her views, political as well as social in an extempore format,  the time limit being 3 minutes, followed by an active rebuttal. The vote of the house refutated the motion.
Spitting fire, the confidence of the speakers was then tested through a round of turncoat debate, where they were given a topic on the spot.
Then came the most awaited moment of the day, that is, the results which were as follows: second runners-up: Ayandri Uniyal(CJM) and Prateek Kumar (St.Thomas’ College),
first runners up: Shristi Khemka  (Welham Girls’ School),
