Bro. E.T Dunne Memorial Debate Inter-House Debate

The Bro.E.T. Dunne Memorial Debates are organized every year in SJA   to  honour  his memory and also as an acknowledgement of his tremendous work for the school. This  debate was organized on 20th August in the school auditorium.

This year debate was ferocious and enthralling. The battle of minds and wits began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest, Junior School Coordinator ,Mrs.S.Hasan , Senior School Coordinator Mrs. S. Sridhar and our Principal Rev. Bro .Dennis. The programme was compered by Tanushree Thapa and Kavya Chabbra and the Chairperson for the  English debate was Rachita Srivastava . Firstly we had the English Debate. The motion under fire was-“  The no  fail policy of RTE Act has done more harm than good”

The esteemed panel of judges comprised Mr. Michael .A.Burrows, Mr. S. S. Rautela and Mrs. Sunita Vijay.

Each speaker did a commendable job and  spoke with conviction and grace.

Stemming rebuttals became the order of the day, with witty questions and wittiest answers. After the debate the Turncoat round was organized, in this round each participant was given a topic and they had to speak one minute for the topic and one minute against the topic. The participants presented their viewpoints with equal grace for the topic and against it.

When the results were being tabulated, Brij Dewan   and Avanish Thapa enthralled the audience with their song ‘Photograph’.

Subhangi Agarwal announced the results ,Savinay Sharma of Donovan House  bagged the awards for both the Best Speaker and Best Turncoat Speaker. Abhiti Mishra of Dooley House won the First Runners-up Speaker and the Best Rebuttal. Donovan House was adjudged the Best Team.

The exciting English Debate was soon followed by Hindi Debate .The participants expressed their opinions on the topic –“ Alag Rajya  Bankar Uttarakhand Aaj Vikas Ki Aur Agrasar Hai”

The panel of judges comprised Mrs.Vinodhi Sharma, Mrs. Pushplata Bhatnagar and Mrs.Poonam Chawla. The comperer for Hindi Debate was Anagha Bhardwaj and the Chairperson was Tushar Sarin. Our debaters indulged in a fierce battle of wits leaving the audience spellbound. After the wonderful speeches Mrs.R.Tandon gave a vote of thanks and declared the results , according to which Tanishk Breja of Bergin House and Anjali Chauhan of Donovan House emerged as the Best Speakers and Pramanshu Yadav  of Bergin House as the First Runners Speaker .The Best team in Hindi Debate was Bergin House and the Second Best Team  was Donovan House. Due to excellent performances in both English and Hindi categories Donovan House clinched the coveted overall trophy. The English Debate was organized by Mrs.R.Tandon and Mrs.R.Gulati. The Hindi Debate was organized by Mrs.B.Negi, Mrs.A.Bisht  and Mrs.S.Tiwari. The Middle School Coordinator Mrs.S.Anand  and Senior School Coordinator  Mrs.S.Sridhar was also present in the function.
