81st Annual Sports Meet 2014

St. Joseph’s Academy’s 81st Annual Sports Meet held on Saturday, 8th
November 2014 was the grandest and the most awaited event in the
school calendar. With Lt. Col. Raj Sangram Singh, Equestrian in the
17th Asian Games, Incheon 2014 and his wife Mrs. Deepika Singh as the
Chief Guests,  the meet, organised on such a large scale, became the
talk of the whole town.

The glittering opening ceremony commenced with the arrival of the

Chief Guests escorted by the smartly attired Guard of Honour. What
followed was a spellbinding fusion dance, a mix of graceful Kathak
with energetic Bhangra and thrilling Western dance by classes 9th and
11th.

The Walk Past by Junior School’s tiny tots of classes 2nd and
3rd charmed one and all. Each section of class 2nd was highlighting

the theme ‘In tune with nature’, followed by students of class 3 who
came up with inspiring messages like ‘Unity in diversity’, ‘Books are
magical’ and ‘Work is worship’ etc. Undoubtedly the most solemn part
of the ceremony was the Relay of the Torch by the school’s noteworthy
sportspersons, and the Athletes’ March Past.

The Chief Guest Lt. Col.
Singh administered the oath to the athletes, thereafter hoisting the
flag and declaring the Meet open, amidst thunderous applause.
The bevy of events for the day included 80m, 100m and 200m races,
4×50m, 4×100m and Invitational relays and the 3000m Cycle Race.
Interspersed among these were a mesmerizing and colourful Peacock
drill by the Junior school students, Mass PT, an extremely
well-synchronised Aerobics display and a heart-stopping Gymnastics
display. All drew hearty applause from the crowd, a fitting
appreciation for weeks of hard work.

As the students’ wild cheers rent the air, the athletes, with grit and
determination, raced to achieve victory and glory for their respective
houses. The most awaited event of the day, the Cycle Race, saw –  Yash
Chaurasia of Bergin house cinching the gold medal, while Devang Joshi
of  Dooley house stood second  .

As the event drew to a close, the school Marched Past in perfect
co-ordination, in time with the beats of the Brass Band. The
afternoon’s anticipation ended with the  declaration of the results.
Bergin remained the runner -up in March Past while Duffy clinched the
first position. The best Discipline Principal Cup was won  by Donovan
House. Dooley house missed the Champion House trophy by a very slim
margin yet were delighted enough to win the runner up trophy .Thus the
day’ s ultimate joy came to Duffy House that seized the much coveted
Champion House trophy.

While addressing the gathering the Chief Guest said,  ‘It’ s
heartening to see the alumni members so commitedly involved in the
welfare of the school. He appealed to the parents to let the children
grow through participating in extra curricular activities  , a variety
of which are pursued at St. Joseph’s Academy, the cradle of excellence
.
