ANNUAL SPORTS MEET- 2012

The sunshine of a crispy October afternoon fell on the field at st. Joseph’s Academy the heartening warmth of which infused into teachers and students alike with a spirit of healthy competition . The occasion being the Annual Sports Meet 2012 held here today. Honourable Chief Minister Mr. Vijay Bahuguna graced the occasion as the Chief Guest . Bro Paul O’Keeffe, Deputy Congregational Leader , Patrician Brothers  worldwide who was on a visit to India from Australia and DGP, Uttarakhand Mr. Satyavrat Bansal are the Guests of Honour  

The event commenced with an impressive Athlete March Past followed by the Torch relay where the best athletes of the school – Aarya Avi Sawan, Harshwardhan Singh, Aseem Mathur, Shashank Bhandari, Tushar Rauthanand Archi Mamagain were the torch bearers followed by a group of students on  two wheelers carrying the flags of the four houses – Duffy, Donovan, Dooley and Bergin. The Chief Minister  hoisted the flag and declared the meet open. Lauding the efforts and achievement s of the school  in different spheres  the Chief Minister  congratulated  the  Management, staff and  the students for organizing  such a wonderful  event

In the marathon and other field events held earlier Dooley   House had taken an unassailable lead. The events held in different categories i.e. 80 mtrs race, 100 mtrs race , 200 mtrs race , 400 mtrs race , 4x 50 relay race and 4x 100 relay race etc were keenly contested and left the spectators lauding the latent athletes of Josephites. The tiny tots scuttling along the track in different fun races like the – Bell the Cat, Turtle and the Ninjas, Dress the Scare crow, I love India and the Princess and the frog left the onlookers mesmerized.  The skipping race by the girls of class IV and V must have left many a soul reminiscing their on school days. The mass drill by the students of class IV and V , the spectacular aerobics performed to the tune of patriotic songs by the girls of classes Vi-X and the flawless P.T. display by the boys of classes Vi-Ix spoke volumes of the immense energy and skill of the Josephites.

The 4 x 100 mtrs invitational Relay race saw doon International , Guru Nanak Academy Moravian Institute , Nirmala Inter college , SJA  and  SJA Alumni Association participating in the Boys Category and Welhams School , CJA ,  Himjyoti ,  Moravian Institute , SJA and  SJA Alumni in the Girls category.

In both of which SJA bagged the first position. The members of  the Alumni association proved the dictum “ Once a josephite , always a Josephite “ by keenly participating in the 4×100 mtr relay race

Then came the star event of the day i.e. the cycle race in which after the breathtaking rounds of the big fields Gary Lu of Bergin house( Junior Boys) and Kevin L u of  Bergin house  ( Senior Boys emerged winners amidst tough competition. The fact that vigour and zeal are not subject to age was proved by parent from the audience who enthusiastically participated in the 100mtrs race. Last but not the least was the most glorious event .i.e. Inter –House march past which saw the whole student body marching smartly and flawlessly to the beats of the school band.

Dooley  bagged the  trophy for the best marching house. Dooley  house eventually won the  Cock House Trophy for the fifth consecutive year. Lastly , Principal Bro. A.J. George proposed a vote of thanks  and credited the entire student body and staff members for making the event a success. Finally Bro. Dennis lowered the Flag and declared the meet close.

A number of dignitaries and Principals of different schools  like  Bro. Sebastian, Mr. Kalra, Sr, Gracy, Sister Saalini, Mrs Meyer, Mrs Daljeet Kaur, Fr. Anthony Dass, Bro. Anthony, Dr. John, Sr Rose etc were present on the occasion
